Welcome to the 2014 – 2015 school year where “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work”! As always, it is so important to join and volunteer for our PTA. Did you know that the PTA buys our students homework agendas? Did you know that the rock walls on the playgrounds were paid for by PTA fundraisers? Did you know that the PTA plans, promotes and puts on ALL of the events listed in the first paragraph? Did you know that the PTA has bought iPads and Promethian equipment for our children’s classrooms? Did you know that the PTA hosts several meals throughout the year for our teachers and staff to show them how much we appreciate what they do? Did you know that the PTA is YOU??!!! That’s right!!! Without your membership and commitment to volunteer, we would be able to do NONE of these things. Please join the PTA. It is $5 VERY well spent!!! Our goal is to have 100% membership in 2014-15. To do this every student must have an adult join. This means if you have 3 children, then 3 adults should join the PTA. Grandparents, friends, aunts, uncles… anyone!… is welcome to join and support our school community. Be aware that just by joining our PTA, you are not committing yourself to volunteering. Your membership alone is a huge support! However, we ask you to please consider giving your time. A PTA Information Form will come home in the next few weeks, please sign up!
This year the JDES PTA has so much fun planned for our Dolphin families. Our Second Annual Variety Show will be in November. Get your act ready! The Reflections contest will get underway soon. Contest entries will be due before Thanksgiving. The Reflections theme this year is “The world would be a better place if…”. This contest is an excellent opportunity for your child to share his or her talents in writing, art, videography, dance and more! We will also host International Night in February and Art Night in March, along with … . After School Enrichment sign ups will be held before the end of September. Please be on the look out for registration information to come home in your child’s blue folder. Again, this year the PTA will be having the Scholastic Book Fair in the Library both in the Fall and in the Spring. This sale usually coincides with Parent – Teacher Conferences. Our popular Spring Carnival and Silent Auction will be back, as well, to kick off warm weather and the approaching 2015 summer vacation. This is a great time for our children to have fun with their friends and classmates and for parents and family members to visit with each other and JDES teachers and staff. Finally, be on the look out for Dolphin Night Out information in your child’s folder, too. These are fun and easy ways to enjoy dinner out and support Jackson Davis.
Two primary opportunities to raise money for PTA sponsored projects are being offered this year, as well. For the 5th year in a row, the Dolphin Fund will be available for you to make donations directly to Jackson Davis PTA. These funds will be used for general instructional materials. Checks should be made to Jackson Davis ES PTA. Also, Great American Fundraising will be back after several years with sales opportunities. Instructions, dates and catalogues will be coming home with students on October 1 after an energizing assembly for our students that day at school. Proceeds from these sales will be used for outdoor updates and equipment. All families are welcome to include family, friends, coworkers and neighbors in either or both of these fundraisers.
